How to Create a Complete Pond Filtration System

!±8± How to Create a Complete Pond Filtration System

Pond filters are one of the most important parts of a complete filtration system, because they work to remove harmful fish byproducts and solid organic matter from the water. However, in order to keep your water as clean as possible, you should combine them with two other important pond products:

The pond pump The pond skimmer

Pond pumps are used to aerate the water and circulate it through the filtration system. Basically, they help push water into the filter where it can then be cleaned and re-circulated. They can also be used to create unique water features. There are four different kinds of pond pumps: Direct drive pumps, magnetic drive pumps, statuary pumps and external drive pumps.

Direct and external drive pumps offer the most power and are best for large waterfalls, streams and other water applications. Magnetic drive pumps are more efficient, but less powerful, while statuary pumps are best used for stand-alone creative applications.

Pond skimmers are similar to filters, but they are only capable of collecting debris and dirt from the surface of the water. They are located outside of your pond, but they are easy to disguise or hide if you're concerned about maintaining a natural looking environment. Skimmers are also responsible for housing the pond pump, so it's smartest to buy these two important pond supplies at the same time.

Create the best possible filtration system for your pond by combining a filter, skimmer and pump. These three important pond products work together to keep your pond water - and pond life - healthy and happy.
